The Work: Introduction
A downloadable book
The short of it is that I made a semi-fictional religion from scratch.
Part of this is just the philosophy of what it takes to make living worth while for me personally. Part of it is realizing that ritualizing my world view makes it more fun to engage with. Part of it is that I've always had a spiritual side but no pre-established religions caught my eye. I didn't understand their rules or feel like there was much point to most of them.
This is something between non-fiction and fiction. It's real to me, but it isn't real. But it is real though. I think understanding that the way I've been using fiction most of my life isn't far off from how others use religion is what finally made me grasp what religion and spirituality is to me. It's a bit of fun to help you survive. It's real in the sense that you feel it, but it isn't real in the sense that you can't measure it.
This theology was hand made to help me survive. It's taking my thoughts about the world and making them into a little game with players and rituals. If it helps you too, then that's wonderful.
I've always been a bit of a vulture, only picking and choosing what parts of a thing I like, and leaving the rest behind. I kind of did that too here. Maybe I should be more ashamed about stealing from other people's religions, but then it's like, who cares? I'm not really practicing their religions, I just kind of agree with their ideas.
The specifics of it all are explained in the book. Though to be honest, even that is just a brief overview. But I don't exactly have time to write down the entire theology right now. It would probably just end up being a huge, boring book.
